At Kuranda Scenic Railway, we are proud members of the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network. This reflects our deep commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, supported, and understood.
Supporting our community
The Sunflower empowers individuals with non-visible disabilities, conditions, or chronic illnesses by giving them a discreet way to let others know they may need a little extra help, patience, space or time. There’s nothing to explain, just wear your Sunflower, and our team is ready to offer support however you need it. Wearing the Sunflower does not give special privileges. For example, it does not let you skip queues, get free or discounted tickets, or receive priority access.
Our team members are trained to recognise the Sunflower, be aware of the wide range of non-visible disabilities and know how important it is to offer the right support, whether that means a little more understanding, a bit more space, or just a friendly smile. Support may include:
- our team being ready to ask, “Can I help you?”
- extra time to process information or make decisions
- adapted communication methods and step-by-step guidance to suit your requirements
- friendly judgment-free assistance, every time.

Where to pick up your Sunflower lanyard
We want the Sunflower to be easy for anyone to access. Need a green Sunflower lanyard or badge? You can request these from our ticket office or on the train. Sunflower lanyards and badges are available from the ticket office and Sunflower lanyards are available on the train. Ask our team at the ticket counter or onboard the train and we will be happy to help. They’ll make sure you get what you need. No questions asked; just say you’d like a Sunflower.

Not everyone feels comfortable wearing something that identifies they have a hidden disability. Look out for our KSR team members wearing the Sunflower to show that they have completed their training and are ready to support you.
