Queensland Rail Travel have developed a unique and interactive app to give customers the opportunity to listen to commentary while they sit back, relax and take in the many historical sites onboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway.

The KSR onboard commentary app has been designed to assist customers from non-English speaking backgrounds and is currently translated into Japanese, Mandarin and German. An English version is also available. 

The app has been designed for both Apple and Android devices, and is free to download from either the Apple iTunes or Google Play store.

Once installed on your Apple or Android device, the app allows you to browse at your own pace whilst you travel onboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway. 

Enhance your onboard experience with audio and visual commentary from onboard the train on your mobile device. Simply select the departure station (Cairns, Kuranda or Freshwater) and choose from the numbered landmarks while the train is in motion for more information. An audio playbar, image and transcript of the commentary will appear. Simply click on the ‘play’ button to hear more about the historic landmark.

You do not require an internet connection once you have downloaded and installed the app onto your phone. We encourage customers to download the app prior to arrival in Cairns (or to utilise the free wifi available at Cairns, Freshwater and Kuranda Stations), and to ensure they bring their earphones for when they use the app onboard the train.
