​​​​​​​Freshwater Connection is a popular departure point situated in the nearby suburb of Freshwater with views of the surrounding mountains. In 1984 Freshwater Connection was built as a tribute to the visionaries and pioneers who built the Kuranda Scenic Railway between 1887 and 1891.​

Maintenance 

Refurbishment of Redlynch Cottage
Redlynch Cottage has undergone repairs to the roof, flooring and exterior cladding as well as a repaint of interior surfaces.

Removal of the Museum Building
The museum building has been removed, with key pieces being stored for future display.

Bus Interchange Car Park
Queensland Rail is upgrading the bus interchange and carpark at Freshwater Railway Station.

Transit Shelter
Queensland Rail is redeveloping a new customer transit shelter to replace the site of the old museum.
