In June 1891 the first trains traversed the Barron River Gorge on the famous Cairns-Kuranda rail line. Since then millions of people have enjoyed the magnificent scenery, majestic waterfalls and spectacular rainforest encountered during a journey on the remarkable Kuranda Scenic Railway. However, until now, they have only been able to enjoy this experience in the one class of travel. All that has now changed.

Almost to the day one hundred and fifteen years on, a new and exclusive class of travel has been born - KSR Gold Class. On the 1st of June, 2006, for the very first time, a superior style of train travel will be available through North Queensland's World Heritage Listed rainforests, the Barron Gorge National Park and on to the renowned 'Village in the Rainforest', Kuranda.

KSR Gold Class will be a special rail journey for the discerning traveller desiring a more luxurious, personalised touring experience. Sipping on sparkling wine or a cold beer and savouring delicious finger foods whilst enjoying the breathtaking natural wonders will add a totally new and very memorable dimension to the world famous Kuranda Scenic Railway.

The distinctive Heritage Green carriage adorned with its brass insignias and plush Victorian-inspired interior will form the ambient surroundings for this great rail experience. 

The romance of a journey from yesteryear will be further enhanced by your KSR Gold Class Attendant who will look after your every need. Excellent service will be complemented by their knowledge of the wonderful stories and enthralling legends of this magnificent region.

And whilst you immerse yourself in the spectacular scenery and the inspiring story of the construction of the railway you will enjoy refreshments served to your individual seat. Local produce tastings of Atherton Tableland produce will tantalise your tastebuds. KSR Gold Class departs on the 8.30am and 9.30am service departing Cairns and the 8.45am and 9.45am service departing Freshwater, returning on the 2.00pm and 3.30pm service departing Kuranda.
